The World Digital Library opens its virtual doors

The World Digital Library, an enormous online collection of digital reproductions of original documents from libraries the world over, is being launched this week.

The project is sponsored by UNESCO and brings together materials from 26 partner institutions in 19 countries and was the brain-child of US Librarian of Congress, James Billington.
