California transportation officials have already begun repair work to a highway interchange that collapsed Sunday morning when a tanker truck traveling on the bridge caught fire.

Motorists' lucky escape |
Drivers had a lucky escape after a vital stretch of highway in San Francisco collapsed. The fly-over caved in after a fuel truck crashed and ignited, sending flames more than 60 metres into the air. The flames burned through the upper deck of a highway interchange in Bay Bridge. The same section of the highway collapsed in a 1989 earthquake.

Star Trek's Scotty is beamed up |
The ashes of James Doohan, better known as 'Scotty' from 'Star Trek' are launched into space on a rocket. Actor James Doohan, who played the starship Enterprise's chief engineer Scotty on "Star Trek," finally made it to space on Saturday (April 28), on board a rocket containing some of his ashes. Remains of the Canadian-born actor, who died two years ago at the age of 85, hurtled to the edge of space aboard a telephone pole-size rocket that blasted off from a desert launching ground in New Mexico.

Art amidst war |
They've been erected to protect the city but a team of 40 artists has decided to make concrete barriers in Baghdad works of art. They're painting a one-kilometre barrier with murals of colourful desert landscapes and proud moments in Iraqi history. The walls have been the subject of intense debate among Iraqis this week after the U.S. military began surrounding a Sunni area in northern Baghdad with them.
